Submission Guidelines: Guest Editor Proposals for Conversations Volume 45

Conversations Across the Field of Dance Studies invites proposals for guest editors for Volume 45 of our annual publication. We welcome submissions from scholars at any stage of their careers—including university faculty, independent researchers—as well as from artists and educators working in dance and related disciplines across our global dance community.

Proposals should include the following:

• Editorial Vision: Outline your vision for the proposed issue, including its central theme, why it is timely and relevant, and why Conversations is the appropriate venue for this collection. Clearly articulate how the issue will amplify underrepresented voices or conversations in the field.
• Publication Formats: Specify the formats you envision for contributions (e.g., traditional essays, creative writing, roundtable dialogues, interviews, recorded performances, photo or video essays, etc.). Please note that Conversations is now an online, open-access multimedia journal—officially indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals—and hosted by Michigan Publishing Services. We encourage proposals that make robust use of the journal’s multimedia capabilities.
• Engagement and Dialogue: Suggest ways your issue could generate future conversations through the journal’s Chats and TalkBack features.
• Editorial Experience: Briefly describe your previous editorial or related experience that prepares you to serve as a guest editor. Based on our experience, a co-guest editor model often works best to share responsibilities and enrich the editorial process; therefore, proposals from pairs of guest editors are highly encouraged.
• Contributor Plans: Identify potential contributors, estimated number of contributions, and your planned approach for securing them (e.g., open call, curated invitations). Preference will be given to proposals that include a preliminary contributor list. If you plan to issue an open Call for Contributions, please attach a draft (350 words maximum).
