Abstract

An article describing the construction of a corpus of Swedish Sign Language during the years 2009–2011, including planning, data collection and annotation. Representative sampling and ethical aspects are essential parts in corpus construction. Annotation conventions and linking to a lexical database are developed over time. The corpus design involves a) creating the necessary infrastructure for long-term work on a Swedish Sign Language corpus, b) providing the resources for corpus-based studies – both quantitative and qualitative – on the vocabulary and grammar of Swedish Sign Language, and c) making parts of the corpus data available for teaching purposes through open access.
