Call for Applications: Editorial Fellow for Conversations Across the Field of Dance Studies (2026 Term) Dance Studies Association
Conversations Across the Field of Dance Studies seeks an Editorial Fellow to join the Editorial Board beginning January 2026. This fellowship supports the Dance Studies Association’s mission to advocate for and invest in anti-racist, decolonial, and caste-conscious approaches to curation, programming, administration, and labor practices across all levels of the organization. Working closely with the Conversations Editor and Editorial Board, the Fellow will help shape the publication’s evolving editorial vision and contribute to broader organizational practices within DSA.
About the Position
Title: Editorial Fellow, Conversations Across the Field of Dance Studies
Term: January–December 2026, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year
Honorarium: $1,500, plus waived registration fee for the 2026 DSA Conference
Time Commitment: Approximately 70 hours over the year
This opportunity is open to graduate students, early-career scholars, independent researchers, and others with an interest or background in editorial work, dance studies, and collaborative publishing.
Responsibilities
- Participate in Editorial Board meetings and communications (all currently virtual), including bi-weekly meetings with the Conversations Editor.
- Oversee the Chats series—a space for timely, flexible formats such as written or video roundtables, curated responses to specific questions, and more. Responsibilities include:
- Issuing the call for Chats proposals
- Organizing and reviewing submissions in collaboration with the Editor and Editorial Board
- Coordinating with selected contributors from proposal to publication
- Optionally propose and curate a Chats volume
- Contribute to additional projects aligned with your interests and expertise
Professionalization Opportunities
- Promote decolonial, anti-racist and caste-conscious frameworks and methodologies in dance research
- Participate in the editorial selection and curation process
- Engage in the peer-review process
- Receive mentorship from the Conversations Editor on editorial praxis
- Lead short-term projects, including Chats curation
